When you need a break from the water, be sure to head in to Monticello every Saturday morning for the Farmer’s Market or visit Memorial Park. The park has 86 acres of tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, volleyball courts, playgrounds for the kids and plenty of shelter houses for a great family picnic.

Downtown Monticello is also home to the Wayne County Museum with many exhibits about Wayne County and Lake Cumberland. It is a must see for anyone interested in the history of the area. Also, a visit to Lake Cumberland is not complete without visiting historic Mill Springs Mill and park. The park is operated by the Corps of Engineers and is a great place to spend a day off the water.

Vacation season on Lake Cumberland officially starts this weekend and there is always plenty to do. If you like boating, camping, fishing, hiking, or just strolling through beautiful parks learning about the area’s history, Wayne County is the place to be. Rent a boat from one of our two world class marinas, charter a private fishing trip with one of our great local guides, enjoy an afternoon in the 86 acre Monticello/Wayne County Memorial Park, visit the downtown Farmer’s Market and Wayne County Museum, or check out all the history and natural beauty at Mill Springs Park. Whatever you decide, you and your family are sure to have a great time.

Don’t forget the 18th Annual Monticello Woman’s Club Cornbread Festival at Mill Springs Park this Saturday. Arts and Crafts vendors will be on site for the event. The meal gets started at 11:00 a.m. and finishes at 1:00 p.m but the fun lasts all day. After eating and browsing the Gift Shop, take a trip back in time and watch the Mill in operation like it was many years ago. Tours of the Mill will be available and you can even purchase cornmeal that was ground in the Mill.

It’s official. Guinness World Records certified 1651 boats tied together on Lake Cumberland Saturday. That number was almost 200 more boats than the previous world record!

Boaters from 20 states and Washington D.C. gathered on Lake Cumberland just around the bend from Conley Bottom Resort to set the new world record. Boaters from as far away as Arizona and Hawaii came to enjoy the day! Participants enjoyed a live band, great friends and a beautiful day on the water.

It was a great day for everyone involved. Thanks to everyone that worked so hard to make the event happen and a special thanks goes out to everyone that registered and took part in the great event. You were a part of making history right here in Wayne County. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

Check back soon for pictures from the event.
